Come to the upcoming discussion of the book “The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness,” written by triple-Hoo Rhonda Magee, professor of law at the University of San Francisco. The discussion is free and open to the public, but note: the author will not be present. The Contemplative Sciences Center (CSC) at the University of Virginia has selected 20 new emerging social change leaders for the 2020 Dalai Lama Fellows program.
The one-hour event was held via Zoom with footage of the Lawn in the background. It featured a guided meditation from UVA Associate Professor of Nursing Sam Green and a panel of speakers including CSC Executive Director David Germano, UVA head wrestling coach Steve Garland, and UVA palliative care liaison nurse Jonathan Bartels. Following the panel’s remarks on practices of mindfulness, resilience, compassion, and well-being, the speakers participated in a live Q&A session in which webinar participants inquired about such things as how to begin meditating and for how long to practice.

First-year student Tara Srivastava and her classmates took part in a pilot project designed to help students at UVA and two other schools flourish as they begin college, a new UVA course, piloted in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Pennsylvania State University, aims to integrate those extracurricular learning experiences with intellectual topics in the classroom, called “The Art and Science of Human Flourishing.”

Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro will visit U.Va. Grounds the week of April 15 - 21. He will be giving a public talk entitled, "Buddhist Contemplation, Science, and Secular Society: A Dialog wth Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro". The dialog will be in conversation with Professor David Germano, director of CSC. The talk will be on Monday, April 20th, 5:30-7:00 pm in Minor Hall 125 at the University of Virginia. Khenpo will speak in Tibetan, which will be translated into English.
