IRB PROTOCOL 7647
A team from the University of Virginia is seeking participants for a research study exploring experiences in Virtual Reality (VR), sleep health, and dreaming. We are looking for individuals with no established contemplative or meditative practice and with some ability to recall their dreams.
Purpose of the study: To explore the effects of pairing contemplative experiences in VR with online courses meant to enhance dreaming, sleep health, and wellbeing.
What this study entails:
- 1 hour of online teachings per week and individual home practice for 8 weeks.
- 1 hour of in-person virtual reality sessions per week at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville for 8 weeks.
- 1.5 hours of pre and post study items (questionnaires, behavior tasks, EEG recordings) during the first and last week of the study.
- Regular EEG recordings using a wearable headband that you may be asked to take home with you and use when you sleep.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Speak English, be at least 18 years old, and able to come to the University of Virginia.
- Some dream recall (at least 1 time/month).
- No psychiatric conditions other than anxiety or depression.
- No history of seizures or heart problems.
- No history of sleep disorders or extreme sleep wake patterns.
Compensation: You will be compensated up to $450 USD over the course of the study.
